Lately I’ve been considering the proposition that other species may possibly approach human intelligence. I think the question really should be if it is possible for our intelligence to approach theirs. Would a herd of buffalo follow an insane leader into a suicidal attack on a pride of lions? Other species discovered every island in the world long before we did. Do birds migrate for the purpose of attending mind-numbing and humiliating sales meetings? Have we ever designed any structure as elegant as a beehive or a spider web? Is it possible for us to have as much fun as river otters? - Michael Lipsey
