A Very Well-Endowed Elf
My plumbing shop was a couple of doors down from an auto body shop. One day I was chatting with Matt, one of the body guys, and told him I was an artist. My studio was a 1,500 square foot space behind the plumbing shop, but not many of the locals knew about that. Matt said I had to come see a sculpture they had been working on for years in the back of the body shop. The sculpture was of a little elf, about a foot tall…with a bloated phallus about two feet long. Body men mix up a lot of an epoxy compound called Bondo. Whatever was left over from the repair was added to the shlong (Yiddish for a very large penis, a small one is known as a schmeckel). I guess it was what you could call folk art because Matt was sure folk, a country boy with a daily five hour round trip commute to San Francisco. -Michael Lipsey
